Studies are now proving that a specific wave length of light in the blue-violet  spectrum is harmful to our eyes and possibly our entire body.  This blue-violet light that is being produced and emitted by smart phones, computers, tablets, over head indoor lighting and television to mention a few.  All of us on a daily basis are exposed to extreme levels of this potentially harmful blue light.  Blue light nearest the range of 400-420 nm seems to have the most destructive effects on the retina in the eye.   These blue light rays not only may cause early aging in the eye with cataract formation at a younger age  and earlier signs of macular degeneration but new studies also indicate these blue light frequencies of light may have some negative effects on our general health. Many companies are selling only coatings that will have a minimal filtering effect  on the blue light and may block only small percents of the harmful blue light. Also u must make sure the lenses are cosmetically appealing to you. Some of these new generation Blue blocking lenses are yellow, yellow-brown, orange ,red or purple and may be cosmetically unappealing to you and actually may decrease the transmission of light into the eye .  Blue Light Defense lenses are one of the most exciting break thrus in the optical industry!  This is a lens that is almost clear and blocks over 99% of the wave lengths of blue light from 400-420nm.
