What is the PCON 250? Simply stated, it is a list of optometrists who practice progressively, provide innovative patient care, conduct optometric research or excel in academia and share what they have learned with other optometrists to advance the profession. http://www.healio.com/optometry/primary-care-optometry/news/print/primary-care-optometry-news/%7B0103d3c1-f83a-467f-a5a2-7f94d0be9cf4%7D/pcon-250 Dr Michael Lange founder of Lange Eye Care and Associates and The Lange Eye Institute is on the PCON 250. Glutathione is crucial for good ocular health as well as overall health.
7 FebDr Michael Lange discusses the importance of maintaining Glutathione levels for good eye and overall health.
Glutathione is the “master antioxidant” found in every cell in our body. Glutathione levels have a direct impact on our overall health and eye health. Glutathione is synthesized in the body from 3 amino acids : cysteine, glutamine and glycine. The specific form of cysteine is a key limiting component of glutathione production since it is relatively rare in the correct form in the typical American diet. When glutathione levels are deficient the body can not protect the cells against free radical damage and disease. Rapid aging, compromised immune system and chronic illness is a direct result of low levels of glutathione. Research indicates that close to 100 diseases may be related to a deficiency in this Master Antioxidant . New science also indicates that decreased levels of glutathione may increase the risk for dry eye, glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration. Glutathione was one of the most common deficiencies found in spectracell intracellular blood analysis done on patients that had both macular degeneration and dry eyes at The Lange Eye institute .
Glutathione levels drop as we age increasing our risk of compromised immune system and chronic illness. These levels are highest when we are young and healthy and lowest when we are old and sickly. Toxins in our environment, food and water we consume daily also negatively impact these levels. Glutathione is the bodies natural detoxifier that is crucial for promoting healthy DNA and mitochondrial functioning. ATP and energy production are directly influenced by glutathione levels.
Some symptoms of low Glutathione levels are : lack of energy, tired, depression, joint pain, dry eyes, dry skin, poor sleep, dizzy spells, brain fog, weakness, skin rashes and frequently sick.
So you can see that maintaining optimal levels of Glutathione is essential for over all wellness and well-being of the entire body and eyes. If these levels are low then we have a compromised immune system and chronic disease can flourish. All health care providers should address this potential problem through properly educating the patient on life style modifications and dietary changes however realistically many will not follow these recommendations and fall back into their toxic lifestyles.
I have found one of the best ways to stimulate Glutathione levels is by consuming a non denatured (cold processed) whey protein concentrate from grass-fed cows 1-2 times a day. This type of whey protein contains the Tri peptide of amino acids necessary for production of the master antioxidant. The correct form of cysteine (not cystine) along with glutamine and glycine is necessary for this conversion. It is important to use a concentrate not an isolate, the whey concentrate has higher levels of immune building cofactors and is less processed than the isolate. The cows need to be grass-fed all year round not partially fed grass and grains. The cow’s milk must be free of pesticide, hormones and antibiotics . I have also been impressed with whey protein concentrate derived from the milk of New Zealand A2 cows. A2 cows are cows that are relatively difficult to find and have not gone through any genetic mutations over the last few 1000 years, each cows DNA is checked to make sure they are an A2 cow. It is very difficult to find a non denatured whey protein concentrate from New Zealand grass-fed A2 cows for a reasonable price with 20 grams of protein. This is why I decided to develop Fortifeye Super Protein. Fortifeye Super protein is non gmo, non denatured, cold filtered, gluten-free, soy free, sugar-free, low carb, corn free and free of pesticide, hormones and antibiotics. If you want kick-start your immune system and give the fuel your body needs to promote wellness then consider Fortifeye Super Protein. you can learn more about this bio active whey protein here www.newzealandwheyproteinconcentrate.com
